CRUELTY TO HORSE

CHINESE FINED £5 On a charge of cruelty to animals Wong Quan, a Chinese marketgardener, was fined £5 and costs in the Onehunga Police Court this morning before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M. Sergeant J. A. Cruickshank told the court that Wong’s horse was driven through Onehunga unshod and that the animal’s hoofs were worn to the quick. The horse was obviously suffering severe pain and when it was taken to an adjoining paddock it immediately lay down. For the defence it was stated that Wong was on his way to get the horse shod at Mangere. Mr. Levien held that the animal was entitled to have consideration if there were any doubt, and imposed the fine.
