PAKURANGA HUNT

MEET AT EAST TAMAKI CREAMERY POOR SCENT MARS DAY’S SPORT A good field attended the meet of the Pakuranga Hunt, held at the East Tamaki creamery on Saturday. A large number of hares was located, but the poor scent which prevailed spoilt what promised to be a very enjoyable outing. The going throughout the day was soft; several of the followers were unseated Mr. A. G. Quartley’s mount failed to rise at a wire jump, and Mr. Quartley was thrown heavily', and received a severe shaking, which prevented him from riding for the rest of the day. The horse was cut on the legs. The first draw was made on Messrs. Finlay Bros.’ farm, and it was not long before a hare was raised, which ran through into Mr. Wynyard’s property’, and led the field for a merry spin along the edge of a gully, where it turned back and passed over Mr. W. Guy’s farm, where it crossed the creek, and travelled through the farms of Messrs. Finlay Bros., W. Woods, and Speechley. After a circle it retraced its scent over practically the same country, and travelled along the road, where it was lost on account of the poor scent. The field then turned into Mr. Cox’s property, and a hare was soon afoot which led the way through Messrs. IT at ta way s and R. Spier’s, where it crossed Ridge Road, and ran into the YA hitford Gorge, where several quarries were encountered. The pack was called off, and put on to the scent of a hare which travelled through Mr. Spier s farm, and it led the field for another circle over the same route. The scent failed on several occasions, and the pack was eventually called off. Mr. H. Bullock-Webster, master of the hunt, was in charge of the meet. Among the followers was Mr. Ralph Ranstead, of Cambridge.
