WIN AND DRAW
TAKAPUNA HIGH SCHOOL S TOUR BASKETBALL AND RUGBY (From. Our Oxen Correspondent) ROTORUA, Today. Teams representing Takapuna High School visited Rotorua on Saturday and played lTugby and basketball matches against Rotorua High School. In the football match there was no score, and at basketball Takapuna was successful by 8 goals to 5. After an exciting game, played in drizzling rain with a hard cross-field wind, no score was registered by either side in the football match. The game was principally a tussle between the rival forwards, but nevertheless the speedy type of secondary school football was noticed when the backs of either side got going. In the first half Takapuna was doing most of the pressing, but the Rotorua defence, however, aided admirably by Steele, the fullback, succeeded in staving off a score. In the second spell the game was fast, play fluctuating from first one end of the field to the other. On two occasions Rotorua was within an ace of scoring, but overeagerness, combined with the sterling Grammar defence, especially that of the Grammar fullback and captain, saved sure scores. However, the result was a good estimate of the comparative merits of the respective teams. Mr. W. Martin ably, controlled the game. BASKETBALL One of the most thrilling exhibitions of basketball seen here for some time was that played on Saturday, when Takapuna Grammar beat Rotorua by the narrow margin of 8 goals to 5. The game was exceptionally even from beginning' to end. At half-time the score was five all. The second half was the real tussle and Takapuna just managed to secure a last-minute victory by adding three points practically on the call of time, making the final scores:—Takapuna Grammar, 8; Rotorua High School, 5.
