WHANGAREI ROAD

KIRIPAKA TO NGUNGURU GOVERNMENT RELIEF WORK (The SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter) PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Friday. It is likely that the river road from Kiripaka to Ngunguru, in the Whangarei district, at a cost of £20,000 approximately, will be put in hand in the near future, and work will be provided for unemployed. Mr. A. J. Murdoch (Marsden) has been making representations on the subject to the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, who has replied that he considers the proposed scheme should be adopted in preference to attempting improvements to the existing hill road. He thinks the Government would be justified in financing the cost of the formation and bridging, provided, the Whangarei County Council undertakes all responsibility, including the necessary fencing, regarding the legalisation of the road line.

In the meantime, an item to permit the beginning of the construction work Estimates for consideartion by Parestimates for consideration by Parliament. Immediately the legalisation is sufficiently far advanced and the county council has passed a resolution agreeing to finalise the legalisation questions without assistance from the Government, arrangements will be made to place relief workers on the road.
