DENTAL CLINIC OPENED

FACILITY AT TE AROHA The chairman of the Education Board, Mr. Burns, .officially opened the school dental clinic at Te Aroha on Thursday. ■ A large gathering of parents and those interested in the clinic took place on the school grounds, where, at 2.30 p.m., the children were marcnea iu the ground and formed a large square facing the clinic. The Rev. R. L. Connolly, as chairman of the School Committee, formally thanked Mr. Burns and congratulated the board on the dental scheme which was so vital to the health of the children. The service would be extended to all the outlying districts and under the capable supervision of Nurse Tollerton, he was sure that the work would be of the greatest value. He thanked all parents and those who had by subscribing to the fund made it possible to have the clinic opened. Mr. R. Coulter, Mayor, also spoke on the potential value of such an institution in a school where expert attention would arrest perhaps a serious complaint.

Messrs. Lynch and Lewis (Waitoa and Waihou) also spoke. In declaring the building open, Mr. Burns said that ultimately the Education Board hoped to extend the benefits of school treatment right up to Standard Six pupils, but at present it was limited owing to the small number of nurses available. He assured them, however, that in time all school children would be receiving free treatment. He congratulated Te Aroha residents on their enterprise in subscribing the necessary money and trusted that they would make the utmost use of the clinic. After the opening many parents inspected the neatly appointed building, Nurse Tollerton supplying the information regarding the treatment of patients. Afternoon tea was provided by the School Committee. Mr. Bums later inspected the grounds of the secondary school.
