GRAND AND LYRIC
“BEGGARS OF LIFE” “Beggars of Life,” the chief feature to be shown at both the Grand and Lyric Theatres this evening-, is interesting for more than one reason. First of all it is a film story that does not concern itself with any branch of organised society, but rather deals with the outcasts or tramps—their lives, hopes and fears. Secondly, “Beggars of Life” marks the return of that sterling actor, Wallace Beery, to strong dramatic roles, which he deserted for a time to play such comedies as “We’re in the Navy Now.” Also, this picture, although it lias a strong romantic interest, flouts many of the usual conventions. The theme is that of a girl murderer
who is taken by a tramp, dressed in a boy’s clothing, and helped to successfully escape the police. Louise Brooks and Richard Arlen have important roles. “The Woman From Luna,” which is also being shown, is another interesting film, starring Mary Astor and Roy D'Arcy.
