Series of Mishaps to Te Aroha Horses

BLACK MAIRE INJURED LOVE CALL’S LAST GALLOP (Special to THE SIX ‘ TE AROHA, Friday. Gay Comet, who followed the hounds at Manawam on Wednesday, fencing - | well ttroughout, was worked on the ( track on Thursday and put plenty of dash into a couple of rounds. He has built up splendidly of late and is pretty sure to race well when required to carry the colours. Dainty Arch, owned by a Te Aroha West sportsman, has joined A. Cox’s team and has been recommissioned. She is somewhat on the gross side, so may not come to hand early. At the Hunt meet on Wednesday Mr. J. Arnold, of Cambridge, was riding a three-year-old by Quin Abbey, which it is intended to race at the Labour Day meeting. Those who have seen him jumping have a good word to say for him. M. Lipsey will have Muskot in commission shortly, but has not decided when to put Ballananna into work again. His other charge. Grand Arch, has been sprinting very well of late. Schooling Well Ah Wera and The Lamb are still showing proficiency over the jumps, some of which have been erected on the course proper in order that the jumpers may have every facility for satisfactory lessons. The Te Aroha-trained horses now in hand number 38, but this total will be increased next month. The list reads as follows: R. Burke.—Gay Comet and Queen Comet. A. E. Monds. —Marble King. I’, Swney.—Yolimond, Taumai and Marble Arch fill 3'. M. Lipse3*.—Grand Arch, Ballananna and Muskot. C. E. Mallowes. —Bert Hinkler and Master Latour. J. H. "Wallace.—Tea Time. "William of Orange, Unique. Sir Russell, Lucky Alice and Belle Star. A. E. Cox.—Black Maire, Dainty Arch, The Lamb, Ah Wera. Glenison, Upoko and a sister to Woody Glen. G. A. Reid. —Trig. Glenstar, Wee Prince, King Lap. Crown Arch. Archeen. R.. 8. Hines.—Queen Arch. King Win, Lady Mestor. Balfour and Art Gallery. "W. Lockyer.—Hunga Hunga and Golden Arch. A. Wriglit.—Some Fashion. Accidents and Fatalities Everything has not worked smoothly in training circles during the past few days. When returning from the course Black Maire collided with a motor-car at the narrowest part of the main roadway. which runs through a few chains of swamp. The horse was thrown and received many bruises. He may not be a track worker for at least a few day's and is a very* improbable starter at the Pakuranga meeting next week. On Tuesday' morning a nice half-mile gallop was executed by Love Call and William of Orange. At the finish the former was noticed to stop quickly, and it was soon found that the Romeo colt was in rather a bad way. He was given veterinary? attention, but died on Wednesday afternoon. The loss to the owner is rather a severe one, as the

colt had been shaping decidedly well on the tracks. On Thursday the use of the outside of the course proper was availed of, and several interesting bouts were witnessed by' a fair number of onlookers. Crown Arch, Lady Mestor, DaintyArch, William of Orange and Master Latour were given serviceable tasks. Bert Hinkler strode round twice at a very even bat, and Gay Comet, in similar work, was anxious to increase the pace. This hunter is very well and threatens a come-back to form. JUVENILES SPRINT King Win and Art Gallery' cantered once round, and sprinted two furlongs in 28 1-5, the latter having her head in front at the finish. Another two furlongs were skipped over by Balfour and King Lap in 30 Glenstar and Trig went well over five furlongs in 1.9 3-5, but could probably* have done better. Belle Star and Lucky Alice, the latter carrying a light weight, scampered over five furlongs in 1.9 2-5. Lucky' Alice finishing fast. The sister to Woody Glen had Sir Russell for a companion over the same distance. run in 1.8 1-5, and they finished together. Queen Arch and Mai'ble King sprinted five furlongs well. Queen Arch, with a light weight, getting her head in fro*t at the finish. The Lamb and Ah Wera went six furlongs in 1.23, the latter galloping very freely' throughout. Made It Up L. Sharpe had mixed experiences at Victoria Park,' Sydney', last week. To start the day he displeased the starter. Mr. T. Watson, and was fined £5 for disobedience at the barrier before the start of the Fourteen-hands Handicap, in which he rode Miss Cardon, and it was not until the second last race that he had a mount in the prize-winning division. It was a winner, however, and a good one at that. The New Zea-land-bred Little Mart came home in front in the Fourteen-two Handicap. With a little the best of the weights Little Mart was made favourite. The surprise of the betting was the support for Lady Woo. who led the field a merry' dance until with less than a furlong to be covered. Little Mart forged ahead to beat her by a length and a-half. Lady Woo has been out of the winning list for some time. Six furlongs has invariably* been too far for her. but the fact that she stayed so well is a good augury.
