GALE IN WELLINGTON
VELOCITY REACHES 68 M.P.H. buildings unroofed , Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. Surprisingly little damage was done Y heavy north-westerly gale which cached a velocity of 68 miles an hour )B spasms early this morning. Structure 3 damaged consisted chiefly of bouses in the course of erection, sheds, fences, etc. Two houses being built at Island gay were rendered roofless and the gale had a peculiar effect on a halfpleted bulk storage tank for an import company at Lower Hutt, the tank being crumpled up like paper. Scaffolding remaining on the upper portion of the D.I C. building at Lambton Quay began to flap in the wind, and when a pole fell between two ears a taxi stand nearby was quickly ( vacuated. The scaffolding was secured by ropes.
