GREAT SPEED REACHED BY ITALIAN PLANE SCHNEIDER CHALLENGER (United ServiceJ Reed. 9 a.m. ROME, Friday. It is reported that during the Italian Schneider Cup trials, one of the Macchi machines reached 35S miles an hour. The Schneider Cup race is to be contested at the Solent-on September 7. Britain is busily preparing, great faith being placed on the supermarine S 6 machine, which, flown in its tests by Squadron-leader Orlebar, several times exceeded 300 miles an hour. Experts who were watching were well satisfied with the demonstration. They declared that the Italian and American machines will need a good deal of reserve speed to win back the coveted trophy from Great Britain.
