HAMILTON’S NEW COURT
FINE EDIFICE PLANNED Work in connection with the new courthouse for Hamilton is being carried out by the contractor, Mr. J. R. Simpson, of Ellerslie. The main dimensions are 128 ft by 120 ft, with a Supreme Court and a Magistrate’s Court, each 55ft by 30ft. The apartments include several witnesses’ and jury rooms, private accommodation for the judge, . magistrate and court staff, and a large law library. An imposing front elevation has been planned. The building will stand on a hill adjoining St. Peter’s Cathedral. A broad concrete stairway, flanked by 12 light standards. will give access from Anglesea Street to the court entrance. The steps and floor of the portico and plinth will be built of Coromandel granite. The floor of the court will be of tiled rubber lino., while the panelling will be of rimu, and the ceiling of plaster. A bathroom will be included in the appointments, and a folding bed will be fitted in the judge’s room. The contract price of the building, which is* expected to take 15 months to complete, is £ 26,000.
