ABROGATION OF RIGHTS
TREATY POWERS REFUSE CHINA’S DEMAND (United Service) LONDON, Thurs. The treaty Powers have refused the Chinese Government’s demand for the immediate abrogation of extraterritorial rights. They have adopted the common attitude that at present it is impossible to accede to the demand. “The Times” says the British Note was couched in the most friendly terms. It indicated that the British Government was ready to study measures for gradually bringing about the desired results. It regretted that the present condition of the administration of justice in China did not warrant the immediate renunciation of extraterritorial rights and the submission of British nationals to Chinese jurisdiction.
