CARD AFTERNOON

ENJOYABLE CITY PARTY Mrs. Prosser, Queen’s Parade, Devonport, gave a successful afternoon on Tuesday to members of the Devonport Bowling Green Croquet Club. Bright Iceland poppies were prominent in the decorations at the afternoon, which was held in John Court, Ltd.’s tea-rooms. Mrs. Prosser wore a pillar box red velvet gown, a seal coat and a red hat. Mrs. Prosser, junr., assisted at the entertainment. The guests included: Mrs. G. H. Lacey, president of the club, Mrs. H. S. W. King, Mrs. H. -Bolitho* Mrs. jA. V. Fraer, Mrs. B. Spraggon, Mrs. C. BIRTHDAY PARTY FRIENDS PAY SURPRISE VISIT A number of friends of Miss Gladys McCauley paid a surprise visit to her at her parents’ residence, Great South Road, Papatoetoe, on Tuesday evening, to wish her many happy * returns of her birthday. .A gay evening was spent in dancing and music. The music was supplied by Miss Darby, Mr. Barret, and Miss Freda Stonex. Competition dances, which added gaiety to the function, were won by Miss Marion Smith and Mr. Roy Clapham, Monte Carlo waltz; Miss Clapham and Mr. Rex Feilder, roulette waltz. Musical items were given by Miss Valda Burrill, solo, and novelty dances by Miss Gladys McCauley. Mesdames McGregor and Clapham acted as chaperons. Among those present were: Messrs. G. McCauley, wearing a frock of Imperial blue crepe de chine, with side drapings of lace; Mrs. McGregor, who wore beige crepe de chine, with silver trimmings; Mrs. Clapham, whose frock was of black georgette and lace; Mrs. J. T. Barrett, Remuera, frocked in cyclamen crepe de chine, with relief of gold: Mrs. Butler, who was wearing black crepe de chine, with lace; Miss Gladys McCauley, in salmon pink taffeta, with overskirt of silver lace; Miss Freda Stonex, in a frock of rose taffeta, with petalled hem; Miss Dorothy Butler, who wore a rose beige draped crepe de chine frock, with tulle flouncing; Miss V. Burrill. whose frock was of salmon pink crepe de chine, relieved with silver; Miss Marion Smith, in patterned crepe d-e chine, with diamante buckles; Miss E. Clapham, frocked in lemon taffeta, with skirt of georgette; Miss Yolande Willerton, wearing blush rose crepe de chine, with silver lace; Miss Marie Darby, who wore a frock of silver lame and satin; Miss Ngaire Burrill, whose frock was of powder blue crepe de chine, with bow and diamante buckle at hip.
