SURPRISE PARTY

BRIGHT EVENING AT PAPATOETOE A party of more than 40 young people paid a surprise visit to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Willerton, of Wyllie Road, Papatoetoe, recently, and spent a delightful time in dancing, games and competitions. PLAY PRESENTED "THE GIRL FROM CHINA” “The Girl From China” is the name of an original play written by Mrs. Ethel Schmitt, which was presented by the Ellerslie branch of the Girls’ Friendly Society in the Parish Hall recently, before a large audience. The musical numbers and ballets were arranged by Miss Beryl Poulton and Miss Eva Stares. With the various roles calling for most finished handling, the play was well acted, and the quality of the solo numbers and chorus work added much to the success of the production.

The chief roles were very ably taken by Miss Beryl Poulton and Miss Eva Stares, while minor parts were well handled by Miss Marion Smith. Miss Mavis Thomas, Miss Leila Morgan, Miss Elsie Meredith, Miss Betty Cooper, Mrs. Schmitt, Miss Jessie McBride. Miss Katherine Pounsett and chorus.
