HOSPITAL AUXILIARY

MONTHLY MEETING HELD The monthly meeting of the council of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary was held in the hospital -board room. Kitchener Street, on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Alfred Kidd, president, was in the chair, and there were also : present Mrs. A. D. Campbell, Mayoress, ; Mrs. C. J. Kirk, treasurer, and 1 members of the council. Apologies were received from Sister Hannah, lister Esther, Dr. Buckley Turkington. ( and Mesdames Prendergust. Donaldson, Potter. Mackenzie, Drysdale, Maguire and Duncan. The minutes of the last meeting were . read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and received, and accounts were passed for payment. Mrs. Hammond Hyde was appointed organiser for the A.H.A. The report of the Unehunga branch was read by Mrs. .Neill. The annual meeting of that branch was held recently, and all officers were re-elected. The second spinal chair had been received, and £. 10 worth of chairs purchased for the men s cottage. Wireless has been installed in two new shelters, containing 10 beds, in addition to the usual monthly activities of this branch. The Mount Eden branch reported 75 garments, four cot quilts and fruit, sent in to the depot during July. Patients from the Alexandra Home were taken for drives, and the cane chairs in this home were fitted with cushions. Families in the district were helped with food and clothing and other comfcfrts. Mrs. Marler reported on 24 patients taken home from the hospital during the month. Mrs. Hammond Hyde reported oil the purchasing and distribution, and Dr. Margaret Knight spoke of the work of the Sunshine Committee. The depot report showed 177 garments donated during the month, in addition to those sent in by the branches, sewing circle, etc.

WAIKATO NOTES

Mrs. W. Worley is spending a holiday at Wharepohanga. The Misses Marjory and Eileen Greville, of the Wliangarei Hospital staff, are spending a few days with their mother, Mrs. Greville. in Hamilton. CROQUET CLUB MEETING At a very well attended meeting of the Te Awamutu Croquet Club on Monday afternoon, the following members were elected to the different offices: —Patron. Mrs. C. K. Rickett; president, Mrs. do E. Peake: vice-presi-dents. Mrs. C. G. Downes, Mrs. J. O'Sullivan and Mrs. Dowds; secretary, Mrs. Battson; treasurer, Mrs. H. V. Collins; committee. Mrs. Eayne. Mrs. Noonan. Mi's. Jeffery. Mrs. A. J. McGovern and Mrs. Goodall: green superintendent-, Mr. TV. J. North; tea superintendent. Mrs. F. W. Bevin; Match Committee. Mrs. Dowds, Mrs. Eayne and Airs. Downes. GORDONTON CONCERT On Wednesday evening a most enjoyable concert was given in the Gordonton Hall in aid- of the hall funds. The programme had been arranged by Airs. A. G. Bell, who had organised a splendid Maori orchestra, and the Gordon - ton Joy Birds. She was assisted by a small band of ladies headed by Mrs. Whitaker. The stage had been beautifully decorated with flax. kararis, silver birch and palm leaves, which made a wonderful background for the Maori scenes and tableaux. The song "Waiata Poi” sung by little Tuh Hoary—to the accompaniment of the poi dance of the Maori girls—was the outstanding item of the programme, but all was excellent as was testified by the loud applause of the packed audience.
