PAROTO REFLOATED
APANUI HAS SCHOONER IN TOW HEADED FOR AUCKLAND The Northern Steamship Company’s auxiliary schooner Paroto was successfully refloated at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, and was taken in tow by the company’s steamer Apanui, which was sent to her assistance. 'J'HE vessel was driven ashore in Crater Bay, White Island, on August 7, and had remained fast since. However, before attempting to refloat her temporary repairs had to be effected. These were finished on Tuesday last, and it was hoped to refloat her the same evening. Weather conditions prevented any attempt until yesterday afternoon, and at high water she was refloated. The powerful salvage pump which was sent to White Island is now on board the Paroto, and it is hoped will cope with any extensive inrush of water. It is expected that both vessels will reach Auckland this afternoon. Full details of the damage to the Paroto are not yet known in Auckland, but after her arrival an extensive survey will be carried out.
