Auckland Trotting Club Makes Reduction QUESTION NOW SETTLED In his presidential address to members of the Auckland Trotting Club yesterday Mr. John Rowe stated there would be a reduction in admission charges .during the new season. “Although the adverse circumstances depleted our profits for this season, our financial position is quite sound: in fact, very healthy,” said Mr. Rowe. “Last year we gave £30,105 in stakes and only received £25.417 from the totalisator. We gave away nearly; £5,000 more than we were compelled to. Well, we are calling that £5,000 in this year by giving away that much less. Our past season’s working has been fair. After allowing £1,189 9s 6d for depreciation there remains a credit balance of £298 10s 2d.’ “There are several of our disgruntled friends objecting to the price of admission to the lawn enclosure for men being increased from 7s 6d to 10s, and have written to the Press making it appear that an all round increase had taken place.

POOR WORKING MAN “In each instance they referred to the pool* working man ‘having all possible squeezed out of him.* Now I want to correct that wrong impression. The lawn enclosure increase was the only one made, the other charges remaining the same. “I am surprised that whe’n the Press published the letters, they diid not make this explanation. However, in trying to meet the wishes of the public your committee, after much thought and very careful consideration, has agreed to the following charges for admission for the new season, commencing with the spring meeting in October: Lawn enclosure, men 7s 6d, women 4s, children 2s; outside enclosure, Is 6d; outside stand, women free, men 2s 6d. These prices moan that men are back to the old charge, the price for women is reduced by 3s 6d and children by Is. I sincerely hope this will meet with the approval of all concerned and settle the question of admission charges for all time.”
