EXPLOSIVE STORE
ADDITIONAL FACILITIES AT DEVONPORT CAUSES CONCERN “That the Government be advised that this council views with alarm the proposal to provide additional facilities for storing ammunition in the borough, arvd is of opinion that all explosives should be removed from the borough,” was a resolution adopted by the Devonport Council last evening on the recommendation of the Council-in-Committee. rpHE report stated that Cr. Hislop had drawn the committee’s attention to the published announcement of the Government’s intention to spend £2,000 on providing addi tional racks for storing ammunition at the naval magazine at Narrow Neck. The Mayor, Mr. E. Aldridge, had also drawn attention to the item on the Government financial programme of £33,000 for extensions at the naval base at Calliope Dock. The council decided to make representations to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defence, and the members of Parliament. The Mayor and Cr. Hislop and Cr. C. M. Browne were depute<P to draft the necessary documents.
