THE SUN COMMENDED
GIVES ADEQUATE REPORTS OF COUNCIL MEETINGS
EXCEPTED FROM COMPLAINTS
A complaint about the amount of space devoted by daily new*, papers to the affairs of the Takapuna Borough Council had been made three weeks ago by Or. J, Guiniven. The councillor said, however, that as regards THE SUN, no fault could be found, but yielding to pressure he had i*. eluded that paper in a resolution calling the attention of the daily papers to the alleged lack of proper reports of council meetings.
Replies from all three dailies -were laid before last night’s meeting of the Borough Council. The “Herald’’ stated that a survey of its news columns over a lengthy period di*. closed the fact that Takapuna regtj. larly received a great deal more space than other local authorities, cons*, quently it could only te assumed the complaint must have been directed at one or other of its eontemporariee. The Sun replied that, had it been thanked instead of censured on account. of the space devoted to Tala, puna Borough affairs, it would hare been a courteous and not undeserved tribute to that journal for the publicity given to questions affecting the township. The communication from the “Star* was to the effect that it regretted that, so far as its columns were concerned, the council's complaint was not without foundation, but action had been taken that would assure there would be no repetition of the grounds of complaint. All three letters were ’■received," the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. J. W. Hayden, saying that in many respects Takapuna had had too much publicity .many phases of which were distinctly adverse to the borough s interests. However, the blame fur that could not be laid at the door of the Tress.
