TAKAPUNA DRAINAGE
TENDERS FOR SERVICE
Since the inception of the borough 15 years ago, the drainage service of Takapuna has been carried out by the borough council’s staff. With the steady sewerage reticulation of the district, however, the number of services ha 5 considerably diminished, although the cost has remained practically stationary. In an effort to right this seeming anomaly the council recently called for tenders for the performance of the service, one condition being that the successful tenderer must be prepared to purchase its motor sanitary waggon for the sum of £2OO. The schedule also provided for ordinary and extraordinary services. The tenders submitted to the council last evening were:— S. P. Stackpole. 6d. ordinary and 9d. extraordinary, with a minimum annual guarantee of £1.600: Lorraine and Cain. 6Jd. and 7d.: W. T. Cooke. Sd. and 9d.: and W. Paterson. 9d. and 6d. The tender of Air. Stackpole was accepted. subject to a withdrawal of the minimum annual charge clause, the engineer stating that the figures quoted would represent a saving of £BBO per annum to the borough. The contract is for a period of two years from September 1.
