TRIAL TRIP
FOXTON’S GOOD SPEED FULL DIESEL JOB Built by Mr. Xicol for the Canterbury Steamship Company, the auxiliary vessel Foxton made a successful trial trip in the Waitemata Harbour yesterday afternoon. The vessel first proceeded from the Central Wharf to the Western Wharf, where she took on oil fuel, and afterwards made a full speed trial to Beam Rock and back. Over a measured mile at high water Black tide, a speed of 10.16 knots was registered, while against a light head wind and ebb tide a speed of 9.45 knots was made. Later her compasses were adjusted at the dolphin in Mechanics' Bay, and the -vessel then returned to the Central Wharf. Captain 11. Monro, marine superintendent, and Mr. X). S. lverr. superintendent engineer of the Canterbury Company, who have been in Auckland for some weeks supervising the fitting of the deck and engineroom departments respectively, are very pleased the way the vessel Went, and expressed I>lea*ire at the eplendid workmanship displayed in the building and fitting of the koxton
The Foxton is a sturdy vessel with a carrying capacity of 320 tons on a draught of 7ft. Din. Her machinery Consists of twin-screw full Diesel engines. each set capable of developing 100 brake h.p., a lighting set of 750 watts, and auxiliary compressor sets with general pump coupled to compressor engines. She is also fitted with winches of 10 to 12 h.p. capable of lifting 25 cwt. in single gear. The propelling machinery, supplied by Mr. Dali, New Zealand engineer of the company, was installed by Parker Engineering, Limited.
