Auger, presided at the seventh annual meeting of the Manukau Cruising Ciub, held last evening in the orphans' Dan, Onehunga. The annual report depiored the depressed conditions throughout the country which nad thrown many members out of employment and made the year a very hard one for the ciub. In order to foster a better feeiing between the two Mapukau clubs, a proposal made during the year for amalgamation with the Yacht and Motor-boat Club was thrown out, but a successful series of combined races was held with good results.
Thanks were tendered to Captain R. H. Gibbons, harbourmaster, for his assistance and co-operation in placing a buoy at the finish of the course at. Cornwallis; to the Onehunga Borough Council for reconstructing the approach to the clubhouse; to Mr. M. n. Wynyard, chairman of the .Harbour Board, for having vested the control of a mooring area in the two clubs; and to Messrs. W. Wright and C. Wnite for having gratuitously placed launches at the club’s service for the conveyance of the public to the club’s picnic at Waikowhai.
The club was represented in the Lipton Cup contest by Varuna, but owing to untoward circumstances she secured fourth place only. Mr. George Couldrey had, however, offered the boat for next season’s race.
A cup for model yacht races had been donated for next season, and it was probable that a set of medals would also be presented for these competitions. Ten races for yachts and launches had been held last year. The membership remained steady at 235. The club had been successful in winning the championship of the Manukau for 20ft and 16ft boats. In recognition of their past services to the club, Messrs. J. Keegan and T. E. Smith were elected life members.
