BENEFIT TROTS

REMISSION OF TAX SOUGHT ’QUAKE RELIEF FUND (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter) PARLIAMENT BLDGS.. Wed. Tlie remission of Government taxation on the special trotting meeting to be held in Auckland on August 31. in aid of earthquake relief funds is likely to follow representations made to the Prime Minister. Sir Joseph Ward, today by Mr. Geoife Baildon, Mayor of Auckland, on behalf of the Auckland Trotting Club. Mr. Baildon pointed out that all work in connection with the meeting was voluntary, and it was thought that the Government might reasonably forego its share of the taxation in view of the worthiness of the cause. Sir Joseph Ward indicated that he was favourably disposed toward the request, but it appeared that legislation would be necessary, lie would consult the Crown Law Office with a view to seeing whether the request could be granted.
