WEATHER PREVENTS SALVAGE
PAROTO STILL AGROUND A poor tide and a freshening southerly wind prevented refloating yesterday afternoon of the Northern Steamship Company’s auxiliary schooner Paroto, which went ashore at Crater Bay. White Island, Inst week. Temporary repairs having been mad' and salvage geai' having been laid out to seaward, it was intended to attempt to refloat the vessel at high water at 2 p.m. yesterday. The attempt was abandoned. Another effort was to have been made at 1 o’clock this morning, but. at 1 o’clock this afternoon. Captain R. <’• Hammond, manager of the Northern Company, had received no word of tlv: result.
