LEVEL CROSSING SIGNALS

DANGERS IN PALMERSTON (From Our Own Correspondent) PALMERSTON N., Today. Saying that the Minister of Railways had gone very carefully into the question of crossing-keepers for the level crossings in Palmerston North, a letter was received yesterday by the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce announcing that wig-wag signals and other modern devices would be installed at the crossings. Tlie letter said that the Minister did not consider that crossing-keepers would give any greater measure o<f safety than modern mechanical appliances. They would also be far more expensive. He felt that if reasonable care was taken by motorists there was no real risk of an accident.
