CONCILIATION DISPUTE

\VELLINGTON, Tuesday
‘The wages and conditions of those employed in the printing trades, other than typographers, engaged the attention of a. council of conciliation today. The assessors on the council were appointed from the principal publishing houses in the Dominion, and from the Federation of Workers. The application was ‘made on behalf of the employees engaged throughout the Do—minion, and included a request for an increase of wages, annual leave. a. decrease in hours, and minor improvements. , , ' ,
The business ‘vas taken in committee, and at the conclusion of the day’s proceedings the chairman announced that considerable difficulty was being experienced by the parties in arranging suitable adjustments in respect to hours of work and rates of wages. He, however, was of opinion that before the termination of the conferences the representatives of the parties would be able to come to ternls on these points. Other items would not pre—sent much difficulty.
