The pupil came down a couple of
times, but was unable to stop, and rose again into the air.Each time, Pilot Brain went after him in a. small airplane and attempted to signal to his. pupil, who to his amazement tied back the controls and at a. height of I,ooott climbed to the tail of his machine, made” sgme adjustment, and then returned to the cockpit and landed safely in a~distant paddock, as also did Pilot Brain. When asked what had happened, the pupil calmly explained that some—thing went wrong with the gear, pre—venting the machine from remaining on the ground, and the only course was to remedy the defect in mid-air. “You’ll do,” was Pilot Brain’s proud but laconic reply.
