FRANK O’BRIAN AT HIS BEST

Something quite new in humour is being given by Frank O‘Brian and his clever company at St. James Theatre this week, and the huge audience present last evening showed its appreciation in no uncertain manner. The excellent patter of Frank, especially as a. barber, brought the house down and is a. sketch which is well worth seeing. Without a doubt Frank O‘Brian is one of the cleverest vaudeville artists seen yet in Auckland. , ‘ Miss Janice Hart, as usual, plays opposite to Frank and is a. great assist‘ance to his foolery, while her solo work NSEPlenfliQ- . , u. _ _ - -

The ballet, excellently trained. and' splendidly dressed, is brilliant. The show starts with a. dance scene called “Carnival Time," While their appearance in a'farmyard scene is unusual. However, the Sta): turn is “International Dances," where the ballet does lightning changes in front of the audi-' ence and gives several national dances.

Ably supporting the leaders are Marie Ward. Maybelle Morgan. Joe Hudson, and Eric Masters. The band still playshaunting melodies, while Tiny Douglas and Zena. Torrens give a. splendid rendering in a. violin duet from “Rose Marie.” The most impressive setting of all was “The Bells of St. Diary‘s,” where Diarie Ward sang the number. Al Batchelder, at the piano. played several pieces with great sympathy. The whole show. which will be continued until Thursday evening; is well Worth seeing.
