The black gelding by Tribulation. from Hastings. which is one of the pupils under the tuition of F. ‘Vaddell, of Gx‘eenmeadows, was schooled over three hurdles in company with Merle on the Napier Park tracks, writes "The Squire.” He gave a good exhibition and showed confidence and cleverness in his task. Blerle also negotiated the obstacles in a, taking fashion which leads to the impression that she will make good at the lepping business. Youngsters Named British Princess is the name selected for the Flying King—Tyranny two-year-‘old in' F. Gilchrist’s stable. Mr. F. Stonex has claimed the name Chansonette for the two-year-old filly by Catmint from Soliloquy, established in W. Gail’s stable. Dunedin Stakes
The stakes offered by the Dunedin Jockey Club [or the coming season’s racing at \V‘ingatui amount to £18,060, a. decrease on last year‘s total, which was £19,135.
J A Pony I A two-year-old which promises to be jvery forward for early spring; racing iis Pal. who showed a good turn of -speed in completing three furlongs at iEllex-slie on Saturday morning. When ffirst placed in Work this juvenile at—tracted attention by.his lack of size, and he has grown a lot since. but he is not a big one. , By Rosenor A Southern writer credits 3. two-year-oid. by Rosenor from Monoxide. sattached to C. Giescler’s stable. as being ’one of the finest younsters seen this 'season. The juvenile is said to be ! well grown and shows heaps of quality | in addition to size. and is a nice even mover when seen in action. I-lis sire, Rosenor. was imported from England four years ago and though immediately placed in work on his arrival here, and g a Winner, too. in a short period, he sub- ‘ sequently met with an accident and the decision was arrived at to retire him 1 to the stud. Rosenor‘s stock are now 1 two years old. and‘all that have been i seen this season carry the halllnark of | real gallopers. ‘ Good Sprinter Great Star has been a regular attendant ofOlate at the Riccarton tracks with a \iew to being prepared for spring racing. Back From Sydney .After a holidav trip to Sydney, the \velbknown Elierslie trainer and owner. Air. J. “'illiamson, returned to Auckland luv the Maunganui this mornina. Marton‘s Fine Course The new racecourse at Marten has now been in use for a couple of year-st and the ground has settled down splendidly. It comes as a uleasant surprise to learn that at Murton horses have been galloping on the grass throughout the winter. and indicates that the very comprehensive drainage system has been a triumph of racecourse construction. Alarton must he one of the two or three courses which have been able to provide grass tracks for traininr.r purposes in the worst of weather, and points to the turt‘ being in tin-top order for the club’s Spring meeting on September 4 and 5. the first of the new season's fixtures at whir‘h the 7.0 minimum weight is in vogue. The Alarton Jockey Club is also to stage a. two-ycar-old narade on the Locond day of the meeting. this taking place prior to the first moo that day.
Brilliant Sprinter \ The owner of Gold Bloney should pass. unanimously, :1 vote of thanks to the owners of Prince Humphrey for entering the last A‘JLI. Derby winner for the sprint at the Pakux‘ungu meming at Ellerslie next week. for it meant that this horse would top the handicap and so assist those below him to get in a bit lighter than would otherwise have been the case. Gold Money has been awarded 10.10, or 224".) above the minimum. and us she won the sprint the last day of the Great Northern meeting with 9.5, 3911) above the minimum then. it cannot be said that she is badly treated. The brilliant daugh—ter of Paper Money is \x'orking; very. well at headquarters. and she pvomises to start favourite if she goes to the post next week
Lord Ranald When these notes are read readers will probably be acquainted with the result of the Grand National Steeplechase. In this event Lord Ram-Lid was originally handicapped at 9.0. and aft-31' the weights had been framed he won two 'chasing events. there being no provision made for a reliandicup. No matter how Lord llanald fares thi:s afternoon, It goes without saying that EU. J. E. chrys will give Lord l-‘mnuld a. considerable rise on his 9.0 today when he comes to framing the handicaps for the second and third days. Had a reliundicap been included in the conditions or the G..\'. Steeplechase. it. is practically certain that today Lord Ranald would have been carrying 10.0, or 1; bit more.
A Stiff Weight There was no possible chance of any other horse but Prince Humphrey being placed at the head of the weights for the Dunedin Handiczm at Ellerslie rm Saturday week. The Duke Humphrey ~—Princess Hazel gelding" (that is ilze
ofl‘lcial breeding you knowf) could not have got off with less than the 11.1 that 111'. Atcl'lanemin has awarded him, but it is a. big impost for a horse just turned four and who has not-raced for over nine months. Perhaps joint—owners. Messrs. C. G. Maclndoe and J. T. Jamieson. will wait for the spring before giving the "rince his next othmg.
Aussie Out of Favour .~‘.ccordin.<.r to Mr. J. \Villiamson. who returned today from Sydney. the down—fall of Aussie at VVarwick Farm last Saturday week has sent the crack sprinter right out of favour for the A.J.C. Epsom Handicap, to be run at Randwick on October 5. The Fortafix celding stopped so suddenly in that six-furlong race that he lost caste considerably. -
Confidence in Executive The following have been roturnm’l unopposed as officers of the \Vaikato Racing Club: President. Mr. G. \V, Vercoe; vice—president, Mr. F. R. Sod—don: committee. Blessrs. T. Clarkin. 'l‘. Dillon. A. E. Manning, A. Bliller. J. C. Potts and R. T. Reid. Blessrs. Vereoe and Seddon have filled their respective positions for 10 years in succession, on each election being returned unopposed. Mr. E. H. O’Meara is secretary of the. club,
