STATE Press Association \VHANGAREI. Today. An unusual case, and the first of its kind in, North Auckland, was heard at the “’aipu Llagistrate's Court yesterday. ' , Frederick Brooks was charged under section-24 of the Child VVclfare Act Amendment, 1927, with-having unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl Ward of the State, who was licensed to accused’s wife for domestic duties. The magistrate, Mr. G. N. biorris, S.M., stressed the drastic nature of the penal clause of the Act, which was not generally known. He requested wide publicity in order to emphasise the serious character of the offence. Brooks, having made a frank admission of the. facts, and the proceedings being probably unique, was let off lightly with a fine of £ls.
