Two robberies committed in New Plymouth during the week-end secured only a. little over £2 for the thieves. The sum of £1 2s 1d was taken' from the store of the Vacuum Oil Company in hlolesworth Street, where entrance was gained by smashing the lock of the oflice door with some heavy instrtr ment. The sum of 18s 4d in stamps and a few private papers were taken from the office of the engineering works in Rangi Street. owned by Mr. C. Swanson. Here the hasp and staple which secured the door were cut through. Mr. C. D. MeGregor, whose home in Graham Street, Eltham, was robbed on Thursday, made a startling discovery on Sunday, when he found two plugs of gelignite in his kitchen stove. The house was broken into on Thursday afternoon when all the family was away, and though at first it was thought that only a few tumblers were. taken, it was later found that two suitcases and a quantity of cigarettes and other small articles were missing.
