TRAGEDY IN THE ARCTIC

EXPLODING RIFLE KILLS ITALIA SEARCHER PARTY ATTACKED BY BEAR (Australian ancl N.Z. Press Association) ROME, Saturday. A tragic incident has occurred in the Arctic. The crew of the steamer Balleniere was searching for traces of the lost members of the crew of the airship Italia on the coast of Spitzbergen. Three men, exhausted after a march of 400 miles, were attacked by a hunger-maddened bear. Captain Albertini, commander of the expedition, rushed to the aid of the men. He slipped on the treacherous ice as he ran, and his rifle exploded, fatally wounding one of the three men.
