LABOUR AND SINGAPORE
PROMISES TO DOMINIONS STRESSED VITAL LINK OF EMPIRE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) QUEBEC, Saturday. Mr. Winston Churchill, questioned about the report that work on the Singapore naval base might be abandoned by the Labour Government in Britain, said such a policy undoubtedly would be supported by the Liberals. But Australia and New Zealand actually had contributed more toward the construction of the base than Britain. It w r as not fair to take people’s money on a promise of doing something and not to carry out that pi-omise. Singapore was a highly important link of Empire, and Mr. Churchill said he was thoroughly in accord with the continuance of the work there.
