CAR-OWNER ATTACKED

MIDNIGHT CHASE AFTER STOLEN VEHICLE FIGHT WITH POLICEMAN Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. In the Police Court this morning, William Alexander Robertson pleaded guilty to converting a car to his own use and assaulting a constable.

The police stated that the owner of the car missed it from a football match. On Saturday at midnight he saw it being driven by accused, who was accompanied by some other men. The owner gave chase in a taxi, overhauling accused. He remonstrated with accused for taking the car, but the occupants gave him a thrashing.

As the car was moving off a constable jumped on to the running board and also got a rough handling, being badly punched about the head. Accused refused to disclose the names of his companions and was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment on the first charge and one month on the second, the sentences to be concurrent. 1
