TE KUITI FREEHOLDS

OBJECTIONS TO VALUATIONS

(From Our Ov:n Correspondent) TE KUITI. Sunday.

A public meeting was held at Te Kuiti on Friday evening for the purpose of deciding what action should be taken in connection with the high valuations placed on properties when practically the whole town was freeholded by the Government in 1922. The chairman, Mr. S. Craig, stated that when a deputation had waited on the Minister of Lands some weeks ago. Mr. Forbes stated that the only way in which it was possible for the freeholders to obtain relief, was by a petition to Parliament setting out the reasons justifying a reduction of the valuations.

It was decided to draw up a petition, and that a further meeting be held on Thursday next, to further discuss the question.
