ASSAULT CHARGE

MAORI REMANDED ON BAIL Monte Grace, alias Haki Hoani, alias Jack Jones, a Maori aged 24, was charged at the Police Court this morning with assaulting Ah Chung and All Lok at Avondale on August 10. Grace pleading not guilty, Sub-In-spector McCarthy asked for a remand until Thursday so that witnesses might be obtained. Bail was allowed in the sum of £lO.

"If he is released on bail, I don’t want him to go near the Chinese,” said the sub-inspector. ‘‘He lives quite close to them.”
