FUTURE STAR
Young Actress Unknown But May be Famous
Unknown to the theatre-going public and the pundits of the theatreworld is a young actress (now being given her first big chance in London) who has the talent, charm and the sensitive nature that go to the making of a great artist. Her name is Sophia Stewart. Until quite recently Miss Stewart wasplaying in a small provincial repertory company, where Simon Old saw her, took her to London, and now she is taking the name part in the delightful Victorian comedy, “Marigold,” revived by Kingsway. Because its production clashed with two other “first-nights” she has crept into London unnoticed by the critics, unheralded by any strident publicity agent. For delicacy, roguish charm and understanding, Miss Stewart’s performance is the equal of Angela Baddeley’s. In addition, Miss Stewart, who is only 21, radiates a quality of innocent, irresistible youth that is all her own. She is the ideal Barrie heroine.
