AN UNUSUAL DECORATIVE NOTION
BOOK. "JACKETS” ON THE WALL
People who like to work out rather unusual ideas in their home decorative schemes may be interested in the notion of using coloured book “jackets” as a wall covering. It is a fascinating hobby to collect these paper jackets, with their bold designs and effective tinting. The help ot friends might be enlisted, and very often the local lending library will supply covers if the librarian is approached tactfully. When enough “jackets” have been collected comes the interesting task of pasting them into position. Arrange the mon an upper wall, with a fourfoot dado, in a plain shade, below them. They should be neatly trimmed round the edges, and pasted close
together, scrapbook-fashion; the bold red, blue and black lettering on each cover adds a striking note to the gay colours of the varied designs. This method of wall decoration is suitable only for rooms or landings which are not constantly used; it might prove a little too tiring and strident in an apartment that is always occupied. The back hall, for instance, forms an ideal setting for a scheme of this kind; the bright pictures lend a friendly air to the whole house, yet they are not -wearying as they might easily become elsewhere. An attic sitting-room, too, would benefit by such a scheme. I have even seen at bathroom that boasted a wall covering of coloured book jackets, and very effective it looked. The pictures had beeu varuished after application, to protect them from tire steam, and they made that bathroom quite the most interesting apartment in the house!
