TIVOLI AND EVERYBOD’YS

“LONESOME” An unusual romance in which? the villain is lonesomeness, is now at the Tivoli and Everybody’s Theatres. It is “Lonesome,” made by Universal, a poignantly human drama of the lives of Mary and Jim, both workers in a big city and both living alone. The story concerns a day’s history of Mary and Jim when they are thrown together at a crowded beach resort by

a mutual desire for comp anionship. Spending the day in pursuit of fun on the concessions, they fall in love. Then, when they are separated in the huge crowd, a great tragedy comes into their lives. They found and lost each other in the same day. But they end up in each other’s

arms in a surprising climax. Glenn- Tryon portrays his first noncomedy role as Jim with triumphant success. Barbara Kent is Mary. Their work in these roles is exceptional. The picture is heralded as a screen success.

“Lonesome” was directed by Paul Fejos, Hungarian genius imported by Carl Laemmle. It is his initial studio production in the United States. He uses a new style of camera technique with impressionistic and colour sequences that are clever, artistic and strikingly original. Fay Holderness, Gustave Partos, and Eddie Phillips have brief parts. The programme at both theatres includes a number of bright supporting films headed by “The California Mail,” starring Ken Maynard.
