OTAHUHU PUBLIC LIBRARY
Some concern is expressed by members of the Otahuhu Library Committee as to how to carry on now thaT the Public Hall Syndicate has taken possession of the hall. Having had undisturbed right of the room used for the library for a, great number of years rent free, the committee is now called upon to pay £1 a week rent. The committee recognises that it cannot expect the syndicate to grant the free use of the building, and the question that it has to consider is how it is going to finance the rent. There are about 95 subscribers, who pay 3s a quarter, or 10s a year. This produces approximately £SO, which sum is subsidised by the council to the extent of £ls. making a total revenue of £65. The caretaker is paid £26 a year and the balance of the revenue is used in the purchase of periodicals and additional books.
The committee is somewhat perplexed how the £52 rent is to be raised.
