APPEAL FOR AMBULANCE FAILS SET-BACK FOR BRIGADE With only Half the sum needed to continue its service, collected in yesterday's appeal, the St. John Ambulance Brigade may be faced with the necessity of reducing its community service programme. In the city and. the suburbs. £SOO was collected by the appeal for the ambulance funds. The brigade needed fully £1.600 to carry on its work for another year.
In some localities the response was generous, but, unless the additioual leSOO can be obtained in other directions, the association will be seriously troubled. The amount appealed for was the hare sum required to cover office and staff expenses in serving the public for a year. With the organisation directed by the Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, about 200 collectors were engaged in the appeal.
