TRAGEDY IN CHRISTCHURCH RAN OUT INTO STREET fSpecial to THE SEN) CHRISTCHURCH, Today. Run over by a motor-van in Manchester Street shortly after midday yesterday, Aileen Donoghue, aged died before she could be taken to hospital. The vehicle was driven by Mr. Harry McMillan. The van was travelling north and had just passed St. Mary’s Catholic School. Mr. McMillan was watching a group of children on the right-hand side of the street and did not see the little girl until she was right in front of him. He put on the brakes, but did not have time to stop. The left-hand mudguard struck the child and both left wheels ran over her. After the accident a shoe and part of her clothing were found on the running-boaru. Realising the child was badly hurt, Mr. McMillan ran to her and, with the help of a worm* bystander, got her into the van and took her to hospital. She died before they arrived. The little giri was a daughter Mr. F. M. Don ghue, a teacher at the Richmond Road School. She lived in Bealev Avenue.
