In a case this morning the Gaming Act was pleaded as a reason for the non-payment of a gambling debt, when Victor David, an agent, of Christchurch, claimed from Joseph Black, a club proprietor, the sum of £IOO, the amount of a cheque drawn by defendant on the Bank of New Zealand and payable to plaintiff or his order, which was dishonoured on presentation. Defendant alleged that the money had been lost at hazards played with dice in the Gloucester Club, a-ad the dice, he alleged, had been, loaded. Plaintiff was non-suited.
