MAORI GIRL ASSAULTED
SCREAMS BRING HELP CHARGE AGAINST LABOURER (From Our Own Correspondent) THAMES, Today. In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, a labourer, Darcy Lewin Goodman, who pleaded not guilty, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a charge of indecently assaulting a Maori girl aged 15 at Tairua on July 26. The evidence showed that accused met the girl at a dance three months previous to the alleged assault. On the day in questoin the girl was standing at the gate of her house when accused stopped and spoke to her. When the girl turned to go inside, Goodman grabbed hold of her and threw her to the ground. The girl’s screams brought neighbours to the scene, and the accused made off. He was arrested, later in the day some distance from Tairua.
