ADDINGTON TROTS
PRELIMINARY SURVEY OF FIELDS QUALITY AND QUANTITY The acceptances received yesterday for the opening day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s National Carnival augur well for a successful function. Not only are the fields large, but the best class of Dominion lightharness horses is engaged. A preliminary survey of the fields Friday’s issue of The Sun. Introductory Trot A good field of trotters will face the Peter Lin, Dolores and Aileen Wood on. the front, those in the rear division will have their work cut out to overhaul this quartet. Audo Bell is handily placed and may be a thorn in their in the humour, and Wild Hebe, .Nelson AlcKinnney, Lady Fan and Nelson Boy will he well favoured by the 12-l'ur-journey. Of those further back Tonic should claim most attention, and those to dispute the prize-money may include Koro Peter. Dolores. Audo Bell and Tonic. Electric Handicap A bip field of saddle merchants will go to the post for this popular heat. Off the end Exclusive. Nelson McCormack and. Marshal Neil will find favour, while White Sun is one that may upset the pot. Of the next division St. Bridget, Qrey Cloud. Lady Alatchlight, Omaha and Sahib are given reasonable prospects, while, should tho going bo heavy. Rebel cannot be left out of calculations. Great Logan will be a tough customer, while General Bingen is a good one at the journey. A likely quartet will be Great Logan, Ncflson McCormack, Sahib and Omaha. August Handicap The thousand-pounder has drawn a high-class field, and will provide a sterling contest. Of those on the front line, the trotter Young Blake threatens to be a nuisance, and as he will be
linked lip with the good mare Clideaway, Tomkinson’s bracket will be looked for. Native Prince may do better than generally expected, but Dundas Boy, Roi L’Or and Silk Thread are likely to trouble all those in front of them. This trio, with Glideaway and King Pointer, who is just behind them, will be out to qualify for New Zealand Cup honours. Of the others. Kingcraft, Terence Dillon and Waitaki Girl will be in most demand, but Dundas Boy, Tomkinaon’s bracket, King Pointer and Kingcraft may be found sharing the honours. Trial Handicap Two-milers in this heat, which carries the looser limit, are often required to go as fast as tho more advanced Students of stamina, and judging by tho field engaged on this occasion, Saturday's contest will prove no exception to the rule. Locanda Boy and Robert Guy are useful off! the end, but in Roddy, Carmel, Sunny Bob and Lady Cello there is a line that will make things interesting, and the winner will probably come from this lot. Firpo is dangerous, while Delightful and Morning Sun are an improving pair. Great Delight is a solid customer that will keep the opposition busy, but Sunny Bob, Carmel, Roddy and Lady Cello may be the ones to be in the public eye. Stewards’ Handicap The field in the chief event for the truo-gaited fraternity is not large, but nevertheless the contest will be a keen one, and tho winner is well concealed.
• Bingen Starr and Western Voyage can | both do better at Addington than they | did at Alexandra Park, while old Nighborn is not done with yet. When Sarsaparilla learns to go square all the j way he will be a tough proposition, I while Le Todd’s consistency will earn j him many friends. Engagement can | trot a solid race and Kempton is such a. good one that he cannot be over- > looked. A likely trio will be Binger i Starr, Western Voyage and Le Todd. Queen Mary Handicap Candidates who have qualified for tho intermediate section of stayers will : give the public a taste of their capaj bilities in this event. Dilworth will ap- ! peal most of the front-rankers, and ! the Nelson-owned mare, if carefully handled, will be the hardest to dispose of. Evelyn Locanda’s recent form will bring her well into favour, but there will he good support for Maiwhariti. Travis Axworthy is handily placed and suro to go a good race, while Glenelg, it* o.k. again must be labelled dangerous. Linkman and Harvest Child will be on deck when the port lights hove in sight, and the dividend-payers may come from Evelyn Locanda, Dilworth. Linkman and Travis Axworthy. Selwyn Handicap A very fair field will be seen in action for this shorter distance heat, but several of the acceptors figure in the saddle race earlier, and will be better suited by that journey. On the end is tho useful Kiowa, while handilyplaced is Hector’s Own, and she will be troublesome to her rivals. William the Great is at home over a tcn-furlong course, and Jolly Pet, if he has got over his barrier lapses, will have something to say in the argument. Trimmer should have no complaints, and if lie is going to break the ice, his chance is right here. Acre, Logan | Hanlon and Golden Bubbles are also given good chances, but the money i may be divided between Trimmer, ! Hector’s Own and Logan Hanlon. International Handicap This is where tho speed is clapped on over eight furlongs, and the lield is a particularly strong one in every respect. Lingfield will lead the opposition a merry dance off the front mark, while orv the next line are two clinkers in Bessie Logan and Chef, * both of whom will be in the picture. If reserved for this heat Golden Bubbles would make it merry, and'St. Maura, it! back to form, should be heard from. ! Epigram and Western King have been " very favourably handicapped, and if . in order, they will add a whole heap
of interest to the event. Those further back tire set a strenuous task, and the most favoured candidates may be Bessie Logan, Chef, Lingfield and Epigram.
