ITALIAN EXILES ESCAPE

ANTI-FASCIST PRISONERS AT LARGE

SENSATION CREATED AT ROME (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Sunday. The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Chronicle” reports the escape of three redoubtable prisoners who had been banished to the arid island of Lipari. They are Emilio Lussu, Professor Rosselli and Francesco Nitti, a nephew of a former Prime Minister, who is now in exile at Paris. All three men were heroes in the war, but they opposed the Fascists. They had been guarded on the island with the utmost care. * At night sentries were on duty and motor-boats were on patrol. Yet they managed to escape. The newspapers in Italy have not been allowed to publish the fact, but it is generally known in Rome and has created a sensation.
