ASIATIC INFLUENCE

MANIAPOTO MAORIS CALL CONFERENCE MEETING AT TE KUITI The effects of young Maori women living with Indians in the vicinity of Te Kuiti and Otorohanga will be discussed on Thursday at Te Kuiti bv the Maniapoto (Waikato) District Maori Council. There is a likelihood that the Auckland native organisation. Te Akarans Maori Association, will have a representative at the conference. The as. sociation has taken a leading part in showing the results of Maori-Astatic mingling and it intends to cooperate with the Maniapoto council. Arrangements in connection with the conference were stated when Mi T. Hotu, of the Maniapoto organisation, visited Auckland last week. To members of the Akarana Association, the visitor gave definite instances of the degradation of Maori women associated with Indians. Waikato Maoris, he said, were anxious to remedy the Asiatic influence.
