GRAMMAR BEATS HAMILTON By eleven points to six the Auck- j land Grammar School first fifteen defeated Hamilton High School at Hai ilton on Saturday. Territorially. Hamilton bad the V> ••si of the encounter against a heavier side fore and ait. Points for Grammar were scored by Slyfield (converted try), Curry (on-' try) and Savory (one try). Hamilton’s six points were made up of penalty goals by Snodgrass and Anderson. The passing of the visiting backs was more crisp than that of their opponents, who were inclined to lob the ball. Of the High School backs Westwater, Snodgrass and Choat were the most reliable. Newton, the Grammar half, made excellent openings for his backs until he retired near the conclusion of play with an injury. Savory and Currey, in the threequarter line, were too fast for the opposition. MOUNT ALBERT BEATEN A surprise was sprung on Saturday, when King’s College defeated the Mount Albert Grammar School representatives at Middlemore by live points to nil. In the first match between these two sides this season, Alount Albert scored a runaway victory. At half-time there was no score, the first stanza having been stubbornly contested. King’s went ahead however when Hargrave scored a converted try. The Mount Albert insid< failed repeatedly to take advantage of the superior hooking of their forwards, and the game ended with King’s still five points ahead. SACRED HEART WINS Although Whangarei High School assumed the lead early in its game against Sacred Heart College at Auckland on Saturday, the latter eventually ran out winners by 11 points to 6. For Sacred Heart points were scored by Toroa (one try), K. Smith (one try), Cooney (one try), and Elliot (one conversion). For Whangarei, Swinburne and Newman scored unconverted tries.
