Captain Donald McDonald. of the < Kurow, and Captain W. Whitefield. of the Kartigi, have exchanged commands. Mr. X. B. W. Haszard, chief officer of the Karetu, has been appointed pilot at Bluff, and is resigning from the company’s service. Mr. T. A. McPherson is joining the Loongana as chief officer at Melbourne this week. Mr. W. J. Freeman, chief officer of the Kekerangu, and Mr. A. M. Lucas, chief officer of the Kaikorai, are exchanging positions at Dunedin this week. Mr. D. W. Blacklaws is being appointed second officer of the Kiwitea at Sydney this week, relieving Mr. A. W. Rabbits, who will await orders. Mr. E. L. Binney, third officer of the Corinna, is transferring to the Kaikorai in a similar capacity, relieving Mr. L. P. Bourke, who is to await instructions. Mr. T. C. Langford has joined the I Kaimanawa as third officer, relieving Mr. D. L. G. Turner, who has resigned from the company’s service. MAUI POMARE LEAVES NORFOLK. —Radio advice has been received by Spedding, Ltd., that the Government motor-ship Maui Pomare left Xorfolk Island at noon yesterday for Auckland, where she is due tomorrow evening. KAIWARRA SAILS TOMORROW. The local office of the Union Company advises that the collier Kaiwarra now sails from Auckland tomorrow afternoon | for Gladstone, Queensland, where she | loads for Xew Zealand. MAKURA FOR SYDNEY. —The local office of the Union Company advises that the R.M.S. Makura, from Vancouver and way ports, is due at Auckland next Monday, and is announced to sail again at 5 p.m. on Tuesday for Sydney. CORINTHIC FROM HOME. — The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's liner CorintUic is to leave London on September 11 for Wellington and Auckland. The vessel is due at Wellington on October 21. CARGO FROM LIVERPOOL. —The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s steamer Tairoa is to sail from Liverpool on August 31 with general cargo to nut out at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland on October 6. , THE CANADIAN CONQUEROR. —The Canadian Conqueror left Dunedin on Saturday for Timaru and Wellington. The vessel is due at Wellington on Wednesday to load for Xew \ ork, Boston and Montreal. She will clear Wellington on Wednesday for Auckland, and is to sail finally from Auckland on August 12. N GATEA LEAVES PORT KEMBLA— Cabled news has been received by the Union Company that the Xgatea left Port Kembla at ID p.m. on Thursdav for Castlecliff, where she is due on Y\*ednesday. The vessel will later proceed to Westport to load for Xapier and Wellington. PAKIPAKI LEAVES NEW YORK.— The Xew Zealand Shipping Company has been notified by cable that the A. and A. Line chartered steamer Pakipaki sailed from Xew York last Tuesday with genera] cargo to discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. Timaru and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland on September 3. CARGO FROM MELBOURNE. —The Union Company advises that the steamer Kaiapoi, from Melbourne, via Hobart and Bluff, was to leave Dunedin on Saturday for Lyttelton, Wellington and Xew Plymouth, thence to Westport, where she loads for Auckland. Cargo from Melbourne .and Hobart for Auckland will be transhipped at Wellington for tills port. TOFU A LAYe. —According to a radio message received by the local office of the Union Company the Island passenger steamer Tofua is now expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland at 9.30 o'clock this evening from Suva. She is to berth tomorrow at the King’s Wharf instead of the Queen’s Wharf. At 11 a.m. next Saturday she leaves here on her return trip to Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. HORORATA'S PROGRAMME. —The local office of the Xew Zealand Shipping Company advises that the steamer Hororata, now completing her discharge of London cargo at Xew Plymouth, commences loading there, and later fills up at Wanganui, thence Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington. She is scheduled to clear Wellington finally on August 20 for London, via Panama. CUMBERLAND TO LOAD. —The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Cumberland arrived at Bluff at 11 a.m. on Friday from Port Chalmers to complete discharge, and to commence loading. The vessel is to clear Bluff on Wednesday for Lyttelton, Wellington, Xapier, Gisborne and Auckland. She is timed to sail finally from Auckland on August 23 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, via Panama and Curacao. RECORD DISCHARGE AT DURBAN. —A record for unloading at Durban was made recently, when the French steamer Sierentz arrived on April 30 from Australia with a cargo of 86,445 bags of wheat, of a total weight of 6,958 tons. This cargo was unloaded between 9 a.m. on April 30 and noon on Mav 4 in ordinary working-day hours of 7.20 a.m. till noon and from 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. The discharge was thus carried out in 37 2-3 hours, or approximately at the rate of 2,337 bags, or 188 tons, an hour. The best working day’s discharge was 26.640 bags in 8 2-3 hours, which the “Xatal Advertiser” states, was a record in itself. HERTFORD FROM LIVERPOOL. The Federal steamer Hertford arrived in the stream at Auckland at 5.30 a.m today from Liverpool, and later bertheJ at the Queen’s Wharf to unload the local portion of her cargo under the agency of the Xew Zealand Shipping Company. The remainder of her cargo is for discharge at Xapier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. She is expected to leave here at noon on Saturday next for Xapier. The vessel left Liverpool on June 22 and experienced moderate weather for her voyage. Captain J. Burton Davies is in command of the Hertford.

MAUNGANUI AT SYDNEY. —The; Royal Mail liner Maunganui reached Syd- : ney from Wellington at six o'clock on Saturday morning. She is to leave Syd- ! ney on Thursday and Wellington on the | following Tuesday on her return voyage to Rarotonga, Papeete and San Francisco. PORT ALMA SAILS FRlDAY —Efforts are being made by Heather, Roberton. Limited, to dispatch the C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Alma from Auckland next Friday for Xew Plymouth, where she completes her discharge of London cargo. Later the vessel goes to Geelong to load for Home. RUAHINE SAlLlNG. —Efforts are being made by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company To dispatch ! the liner Ruahine from Auckland at 2 j o’clock tomorrow afternoon for Gisborne, ; thence Xapier, Timaru. STEAMERS FROM LIVERPOOL. —The Xew Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal Line steamer Papanui was scheduled to clear Liverpool on Saturday with geenral merchandise from W est Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lvttelton, Dunedin and Xew Plymouth. She is due at Auckland on September 16. Also with cargo from West roast of Great Britain, the Piako is to leave Liverpool for Auckland. Wellington. Lvttelton, Dunedin and Bluff on August 17 She is due at Auckland on September The Xorfolk is to sail for Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers on September 14. She is due at Auckland on October 22. The Kent is to sail for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers on October 12. She is due at Auckland on November 19. The Cornwall is to sail for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers on October 26. She is due at Auckland on December 4. The Cumberland is to sail for Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton and-Port Chalmers on November 23. She is due at Auckland on December 31. HAURAKI FROM LOS ANGELES.— The L'nion Steam Ship Company’s transpacific motor cargo vessel Hauraki arrived in the stream from Los Angeles at | 9.15 p.m. yesterday. She berthed at ; King’s Wharf at eight o’clock this niorn- | ing to discharge the local consignment of i a cargo of timber case oil, newsprint, and general Pacific Slope- merchandise, j which she loaded at Vancouver, Powell River. Ocean Falls, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The last-named port was cleared on July 15, and a direct passage made to Auckland, during which the Hauraki enjoyed fine weather throughout. The trip was uneventful, and the vessel maintained her customary smart speed. Her average was 11.9 knots, which is the same as for her last trip. Bevond cargo, the Hauraki brought S 3 bags of second-class mail for New Zealand. Captain A. T. Norton commands the vessel, and he has associated with him the following officers:—Chief officer, Mr. F. W. Collins; second, Mr. G. H. Kime; third, Mr. G. M. Schofield; chief engineer, Mr. H. R. Frith; second, Mr. W E. Wiggins; third Mr. W. S. McLean; fourth* Mr. J. McKenzie; fifth. Mr. W. W. The Union Company announces that the Hauraki is to sail on Thursday Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, to complete unloading.
THE WAIOTAPU.—The Union Company’s trans-Pacifi steamer Watotapn was due at Papeete from Los Angel's yesterday. The vessel has cargo from Pacific Coast ports for discharge at Papeete. Auckland. Melbourne and Sydney. She s scheduled to reach Auckland on August 17. Hokianga is to be dispatched for Hokianga at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Arapawa, in continuation of her trip to Opunake and Wanganui, will probably proceed to Westport. She is not expected to arrive back at Onehunga until August 11 and is scheduled to sail on her next trip to Opunake and Wanganui on ■ the following day.
