GRAND AND LYRIC
“THE THREE PASSIONS” “Blossey,” Lady Victoria Burlington, to give her full title as one of the most sprightly, most modern of London’s post-war “smart set/’ is the fascinating heroine of Hex Ingram’s production (a United Artists’ Picture) of Cosmo Hamilton’s new story, “The Three Passions,” now at the Grand and Lyrio Theatres. The development of her conflict with her lover’s new ideals and with herself is unusually thrilling. Interpreted by beautiful Alice Terry, this impetuous, harum-scarum yet very lovable modern girl is one of the finest pieces of characterisation the star has achieved under the direction of her husband, Rex Ingram, who made “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,’* and other masterpieces. Her lover, the Hon. Philip Wrexham, the Oxford student who renounces the wealth and position offered by his father, a millionaire peer, is played by Ivan Petrovitch. the extremely handsome Serbian actor, discovered by Ingram. and now one of the world's highest salaried artists. “The Three Passions” is a photoplay with a big appeal to women, always interested in the strange attraction which celibacy has for some men, but there is strong fare for the male patron also in its pictures of a big industrial dispute and of “raw” life in a London “East End” mission. “Protection” is the title of the second feature at both theatres. The stars are Dorothy Burgess, Paul Page and Robert Elliott. FROM MUSICAL COMEDY TO R.K.0.. Helen Kaiser, who has been winning the plaudits of Broadway for 1 f work. Is the third musical comedy celebrity to be 'taken from Broadway by the RKO Studios. Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey. who appeared in the original stage production of "Rio Rita.” have been retained by William Be Baron to sing and talk in the Radio Pictures version of the Ziegfeld musical hit. With Bebe Daniels, Betty Compson and Olive Borden as stars, the Radio Pictures stock company now includes, in addition to Miss Kaiser. Sallv Blane, Hugh Trevor and Ann Green way.
