CITY NOT AFFECTED
NO TAX INCREASE HERE MINISTER’S STATEMENT Taxation on city property will not be increased under the Government’s new taxation proposals. The Hon. J. B. Donald. PostmasterGeneral, stated this morning that city property will remain as it is at presentHe was commenting on a message from Dunedin, which appeared in The Sun on Saturday. This contained tlie opinion of a Dunedin stock and station agent, who said that the Government did not seem to have taken into consideration the fact that taxation would also apply to city properties hearing very high municipal rates. They would have to pay these heavily increased land taxes, thus causing further difficulties in financial matters. Mr. Donald remarked that this was quite wrong, as the new proposals re- | ferred only to farming lands. Discussing the estimates, tile Post- ; mpster-General said that as far as ■ those of his own department were conI cerned, there was no camouflage.
